Assessment time!!!

This semester I have learnt A LOT!! I’ve never been very good with computers. If you asked me what a HTML, RSS or CSS was last year and I would have stared at you blankly.

Last term-

Blogger: The blogs have been fun to use and we have learnt how to change the appearance add gadgets, and make html’s, which was really beneficial. I have since used html’s in everyday internet postings and now have a better understanding of how they work and what they do!
Although I probably will not continue blogging, I can understand how it is interesting and fun. Not only for the average person to have a ‘internet presence’ but for companies and jobs as well- eg, an artist may have a blog and do commissions for people- thus reaching a wider audience that they wouldn’t have been able to without the internet.

Flickr: has become quite important in my daily routine!! It is really handy for posting up work in progress and video’s for animation. If we had no learnt this I would still probably be wondering how to do this!!

Delicious: Is really handy! I am always forgetting the url’s for websites, (especially all the ones we have had to keep for this subject! Next time I will make NO variations in user names and passwords!) so its really neat to have them all on one website! Especially when you are on different computers! I have given the old ‘favourite’ option on m computer the flick and am now using Delicious instead!

This Term:

This term has been mostly about Counters, RSS and FTP.  Before these lessons, I knew nothing about any of them!!! I have always wondered how websites were made and different ways to do them. I have greatly enjoyed using iweb!!!  It is awesome to be able to change and drag and drop images and text to create your very own web page!

FTP: was a bit challenging at the time, but got the hang of it! It is a network protocol that is used to exchange and manipulate files over a computer network and internet. I was introduced to Fetch, the FTP client we were using, and learnt how to add things into it in order to create a website.

Athene: I have learnt that you DO not delete your Public html by accident...!!!! It causes much stress and anguish! :P

RSS: is pretty damn cool! It allows you to be updated on your favourite blogs and sites with RSS feeds on your own site! This mean’s you have the convenience to be able to see the updates in one place! Before this class I knew nothing about these and didn’t even know they existed!!

So over all, everything has been new to me and I have actually learnt a great deal!!

Techonorati

Wow!! Techonorati is weird and temperamental!! When we first signed up for it, no ones worked! About a week later, finally it seems to have gotten over its hissy fit!!
Personally I don’t see the point in it for people like me who are not very into blogs. However, I can see that it could help companies, with knowing who is looking at your products and what they are saying etc.

At the moment my rank and authority is 0.....

Week 10- Counters and RSS

Counters are pretty cool! They are little application things that you can place on your website that count the amount of ‘hits’ and views your website gets. This can be really beneficial to the owner of the site to know how popular and how often people are looking at their site.
Another web analysis tool is
Google Analytics which allows you to see how visitors interact with your site to gain a better understanding on what is and isn’t working with your website.

Rss (really simple syndication) are web feeds that publish frequently updated works such as blogs. RSS is good for keeping up to date on certain webpage’s of interest and a good way to keep everything organized. They benefit readers who want to be able to view their favorite feeds in one place.

I put the RSS feeds to my Delicious, My blog, the MPI blog- on my blog and my domain iweb page. I had trouble with the google reader through.. I couldn’t put a RSS to it on my blog? But I did subscribe to them all on there instead.…

Still No Athene page… >_<

Athene Rant/ funny!!! :D

EDIT!!

Hahahahahaha- So it seems I was a loser and accidently DELETED my public html which was the problem all along!.... Woops!! *slaps head* So much silly stress for nothing!! :P

GAAAAHHH!!!
My Athene account/ page is STILL NOT THERE!!!!!

So now I can’t put up my iweb… and now I cant post links to it… And now I don’t know what to do!......... :(

Week 9- FTP and Athene

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Is a network protocol used to exchange and manipulate files over the internet.
It promotes the sharing of files, encourages indirect use of remote computers, shields the user from variations in file storage systems among different hosts and to transfer data reliability and efficiently.
However, FTP is particularly unsecure method of transferring files because there is no method specified for transferring Data in an encrypted Fashion. This means that transferred files on FTP can be intercepted by anyone on the same network.
This problem can be overcome by using SFTP (SSH file transfer protocol) or FTPS…

In MPI we have been using  the FTP client  called Fetch (which has the cutest little picture of a puppy biting a floppy disk!)

We are also using a cool simple website program called iweb! Which is a lot of fun!!! I love how easy it is to use and how many little cool templates you can alter!! It is so simple to just add stuff and delete things-, which is awesome!

I WOULD post a link to my iWeb but unfortunately it has disappeared!? WHYYYYYYYYY???!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? *goes and cries in a corner*
